As an artist, my journey began with pen and ink, a medium that allows me to explore the intricate beauty of the natural world through the precision of lines. My work is characterized by detailed depictions of flora and fauna, where the effect of shading is meticulously achieved through the careful manipulation of line size and spacing. This technique enables me to convey depth and texture, creating a vivid and engaging visual experience.
My creative path expanded into the realm of wheel-thrown pottery. This shift introduced me to the tactile pleasure of shaping clay into functional forms. Each piece of pottery I create serves as a canvas for my pen and ink illustrations, bridging my two mediums through the process of screen printing. This integration of drawing and ceramics results in unique, functional art pieces that blend utility with aesthetic pleasure.
Recently, I have ventured further into ceramics, focusing on sculptural forms with a particular fascination for animals, especially birds and fish. These pieces not only capture the essence and elegance of the animal in three-dimensional form but also incorporate my original line illustrations by hand painting glaze onto the sculpture. This fusion of techniques allows me to explore the interplay between form, surface, and imagery, creating a dialogue between my two artistic disciplines.
Through my art, I aim to celebrate the beauty and complexity of the natural world, inviting viewers to appreciate the details that often go unnoticed. Whether through the fine lines of a pen drawing or the crafted curves of a ceramic form, my work seeks to evoke a sense of wonder and connection to the world around us.
